Marker History
[78] is one of a handful of miniature-sized markers within the State Marker System. Most of these tiny Nevada-shaped landmarks are mounted on the walls of buildings, but this one was mounted on a post instead of on the home itself. This was done to increase its visibility on the Kit Carson Trail. Originally, the SHPO had placed the marker closer to the street corner (similar to [70] Bliss Mansion), but it was moved to its current location in 2005 to install the picnic bench that you see today.
Miniature Marker 78 stands watch in front of Carson City's fabulous Orion Clemens Home - just one of a dozen historic homes from the late 1800s Comstock Era.

Exact Plaque Description:
Orion Clemens, secretary to Territorial Governor James W. Nye, lived in this house with his wife, "Mollie," from 1864 to 1866. His brother, Samuel, a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise, who later became famous as "Mark Twain", stayed here periodically in 1864.
Marker 78 is one of the stops along the Kit Carson Trail - a fabulous 2.5 mile route through Carson City's historic westside district.
It's a sweet notion thinking that Mark Twain himself could have potentially stood on that balcony at some point in time.
